Harley Hotchkiss
Former Owner – Calgary Flames and Former Chairman – NHL Board of Governors
Known for his business acumen and philanthropy, Harley Hotchkiss will be remembered as a powerful mentor in both the hockey and Calgary communities.
After serving in World War II, Hotchkiss earned a degree in geology from Michigan State University, an education that spawned a career in managing his own oil, gas, real estate and agricultural enterprises. As one of the owners of the Calgary Flames who helped bring the Flames from Atlanta to Calgary, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a Builder in 2006. Hotchkiss played a large role in the building of the Pengrowth Saddledome, which would be home to the Calgary Flames and to the 1988 Winter Olympics.
In 1997, Hotchkiss was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada and, in 1998, he was awarded the Alberta Order of Excellence.
