Alex Anthopoulos
Vice President, Baseball Operations – Toronto Blue Jays
In 2009, at age 32, Alex Anthopoulos was named senior vice-president and general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, making him one of the youngest general managers in Major League Baseball history. A Montreal native, Anthopoulos is the second Canadian to take the reins for the Blue Jays and fifth Canadian GM of all time.
Anthopoulos got his start in baseball as a media relations and scouting intern with the Montreal Expos. In 2003, he was hired by the Toronto Blue Jays as a scouting coordinator before being promoted to Assistant General Manager. Upon his arrival as GM in 2009, Anthopoulos began his tenure by executing one of the biggest trades in Blue Jays history, trading pitcher Roy Halladay to the Philadelphia Phillies for three elite prospects.
